Stop Chumming Illegal Immigrants
Topic: Immigration

It irritates me that our learned politicians cannot or will not come up with any reasonable solution to fix the Immigration Problem.

Let us first analyze the cause of the problem.

If the crew of a fishing vessel wants to catch lots of Tuna, or other specie of fish, they chum for them first. Chumming is the practice of throwing food the fishes like overboard to attract the fish to the area you are fishing. This makes it easier for you to catch your limit.

If you are interested in bird watching, throwing breadcrumbs or seeds on your front lawn will attract many birds to watch.

If you are interested in trapping other animals you must set a trap baited with some substance that that particular animal will be attracted to.

But on the other hand if you stop chumming you will catch very few fish, and without bait your traps will not catch any animals, and with no breadcrumbs there won’t be many birds to watch.

The answer to fix our problem in illegal migrant workers is simple, just stop chumming.

The Illegal Immigrants are coming across the border to find jobs, so the job availability becomes the Chum or bait that attracts them here. The jobs are available to them because many contractors are breaking laws to get cheap workers by paying less than the legal minimum wage, failing to collect taxes, and failing to provide the benefits such as Unemployment Compensation and Workers Compensation that must be provided to legal American workers. Thus many Americans cannot find jobs and the contractors are making higher profits by cheating the illegals.

If we were to start enforcing the existing laws or make the laws more stringent and start fining and jailing the contractors that are providing these jobs, the availability of jobs would dry up. And since the cost of living and the cost of food in the USA is much higher than in Mexico, the illegals would have to return to Mexico or starve, and the reason to cross the border into the USA would no longer exist.

Then there would be very little reason to build expensive fences and walls to keep the Illegal Immigrants out. There would be little reason to hire more Border Patrol to chase Illegal Immigrant Workers, and the border Patrol could spend more of their time looking for and stopping Illegal Drug Peddlers, Terrorists, and child pornographers from crossing our borders.

Another problem will be addressed at the same time is that if there are no jobs to come across the border to find, the number of people crossing our border will be deceased by a great percentage. And the people crossing will be limited to the people who are interested in peddling drugs and prostitutes and Terrorists. So the Border Patrol Agents will not have to try to distinguish between Migrant Fruit Pickers and serious criminals, as they must do now, probably letting as much 10% of the people crossing our borders unimpeded as being serious criminals.

The whole concept shared by many politicians is that “We must secure our borders”, and their solution is to build a wall or a fence. Some say this fence must have 3 segments 50 feet apart with a layer of gravel between the fences to make it easier to hear people trying to cross between the fences, and have Guard Stations every few hundred feet. And this secure fence will only cost three million dollars per mile. (My second cousin Herkimer is willing to accept the No Bid Contract)

The only problem is that the Illegal Immigrants would only have to find a better entry point, like a secluded beach in Texas, Louisiana, or Florida, or a hundred miles further north in California, or many other parts of thee country, where small boats can come ashore at any time without causing any concern.

So no matter how secure the fence is, or even having a Border Patrol Agent stationed every eight feet, will not stop the Illegal Immigrants from entering the country as long as there are jobs waiting for them, no matter that the jobs are illegally offered and the workers must break many laws to accept them.

There may be another reason the Mexicans are Migrant Fruit Pickers here in the US and do not grow their own crops in Mexico.  To grow their own crops they would have to work many months every year. They would have to own the farmland, plow the fields, buy and plant the seeds, buy fertilizer and apply it when needed, weed the fields so the crops could grow unimpeded by weeds, water the crops when the need arose, and pick and market the crops when they were ripe.

Or they can do virtually nothing all year, and sneak across the border get a job by lying about their identity, and work 3 or 4 weeks for some hardworking American farmer who has worked tirelessly for the past 11 months to grow the crop of fruits and vegetables, for the migrant workers to pick and make more money than they could have made in Mexico working all year. But then why move back to Mexico where the standard of living is so poor when with their false identity they can scam the American Government to offer them free education for their children, free medical care for their whole family, and they can probably receive welfare from the government or help from some bleeding heart religious or charitably group who claim they are helping these needy people. Get a grip people, these are not needy people who need a helping hand to get back on their feet, these are conniving criminals who have found an ideal system to grab and steal everything they want without working to get it.
